Electrician Invoice Template
Electrical work invoice with compliance certificate. Example: Switchboard upgrade $1,850 + safety certificate.
What an electrical invoice should show
- Your electrical licence number — most states require it on documents issued for the work
- The site address, which is often different from the billing address
- The work performed, in enough detail that another electrician could identify it
- Labour and materials on separate lines
- The certificate of compliance or safety certificate number, where the work required one
- Call-out, travel and after-hours rates, if they were charged
- Your ABN, GST shown separately, and payment terms
Compliance paperwork travels with the invoice
For most notifiable electrical work the certificate matters more than the invoice — it is what a purchaser, an insurer or a regulator asks for years later. The name it goes under, the form and who it must be lodged with differ between states. The practical habit is to issue the certificate and the invoice together, and to keep both against the site address, so the record can be found by the property rather than by the customer.
- Reference the certificate number on the invoice so the two documents find each other later
- Bill the person who actually engaged you — on rental work that is often the agent, not the occupant
- Note any defect you found and did not rectify, in writing, at the time
On variations
- Get approval before switchboard or cabling scope grows, not after
- Price emergency call-outs at the rate you quoted on the phone
- Keep photographs of concealed work before it is closed up
