Overtime here is a simple weekly threshold. Real overtime entitlements come from a modern award or an enterprise agreement and can depend on daily hours, span of hours, shift loadings and public holidays. Use this to work out hours and a rough gross; check the actual entitlement against your award on fairwork.gov.au.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I work out hours from start and finish times?

Convert both to minutes, subtract the start from the finish, take off any unpaid break, then divide by 60. This page does that for each day and adds the week up. A shift that finishes after midnight is handled — if the finish time is earlier than the start, it rolls to the next day.

What is 7.5 hours in hours and minutes?

7 hours 30 minutes. Decimal hours are the fraction of an hour, so 0.5 is 30 minutes, 0.25 is 15 minutes and 0.1 is 6 minutes. Each row shows both forms so you can use whichever your payroll wants.

Why would I round to 6 minutes?

Six minutes is one tenth of an hour, so rounding to it keeps decimal hours tidy for billing. Fifteen minutes is the other common choice. Rounding rules for employees should follow the applicable award or agreement rather than convenience.

Does this handle overtime, penalty rates and loadings?

Only a simple weekly overtime threshold with a multiplier. Australian overtime, penalty rates, shift loadings and public holiday rates come from a modern award or enterprise agreement and vary by industry and by the hours worked. Check the award on fairwork.gov.au for the real entitlement.

Is my timesheet saved anywhere?

No. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere — the calculation runs in your browser and the page forgets it when you close the tab. Use the CSV download if you want a copy.

Can I use this for client billing as well as payroll?

Yes. Put your charge-out rate in the hourly rate field and leave the overtime threshold blank, and the gross figure is what to invoice for the week.
